Metallurgical leaders, experts, scholars and enterprise heads from across the country headed to China’s first steel overseas development forum.

The event was staged to push for new opportunities around the globe and was described as a great success.

Staged in Hangzhou in the Zhejiang Province, the China Iron and Steel Association’s event was jointly hosted by Mysteel Group and CISDI Group.

The forum focussed on two major subjects - production and raw materials, and demand and trade.

CISDI was the only engineering company to be invited. Its vice president Jason Hu delivered a keynote speech on CISDI’s achievements, and how it has been empowered by Belt and Road Initiative steel investments.

With the aim of finding ways to take China’s steel enterprises global, Mr Hu gave a detailed analysis of overseas investment opportunities and the potential risk factors, followed by detail on CISDI’s consulting and full-process technological competences and overseas constructions.

He commented that, in the midst of a complicated economic and political climate in China and abroad, investing in overseas steel projects could be both a challenge and an opportunity. But he stressed that CISDI is well prepared to provide future-oriented, innovation-driven engineering services and is joining forces with Chinese steel producers to seek international opportunities.

As one of the first engineering companies to seek out global opportunities, CISDI has long been committed to its internationalisation strategy and has carried out numerous projects at overseas hot spots. The company has left its footprint in over 30 countries and regions, with over 500 projects designed, supplied and built. Its main customers, ArcelorMittal, TATA Steel and JFE, have applauded CISDI’s abilities, Mr Hu added.

During the one-day forum, speeches were also delivered by the China Metallurgical Information and Standardization Institute, Delong Steel, Jingye Group, Sinosteel Australia, China Minerals Co., the China International Contractors Association, China Communications Construction I, Shagang Europe, CITIC Pacific Special Steel, C&D, and Mysteel Group.

Each company and organisation spoke of their experience and skills and detailed their plans for overseas development.
