A round and square bloom caster is now in operation at Jianlong’s Lvliang plant in China’s Shanxi Province.

Two heats were hot tested concurrently and passed. They featured a section dimension of 200 millimetres square, a steel grade of 20 and a casting speed of 1.2 metres per minute.

CISDI, the caster’s EPC-based service provider, partnered with a European supplier for designs.

Multiple interfaces and a tight schedule posed challenges throughout - from contract signing in December 2021 to hitting each design, installation and commissioning target. 

Caster 2 will produce 880,000 tonnes of special steel blooms a year. Main products will include 210mm, 300mm, 380mm, rounds from 180mm to 450mm and 200mm squares.
