Baosteel Zhanjiang’s second all-weather wharf goes on-stream

A new all-weather wharf is reducing manpower needs at Baosteel Zhanjiang’s phase II.

Thanks to its smart, green and cost-effective systems, the wharf is now operating with two autonomous machines, intelligent wharf control, unmanned operations on the ground and labour-reduced operations inside the cabin.

The all-weather wharf can operate uninterrupted and reduces workforce requirements by at least 50 per cent. Energy consumption has been reduced by around 5 per cent.

It is the second such wharf CISDI has created for Zhanjiang. The first, for the site’s phase I, went operational in October 2020.

Phase II’s wharf needed to be constructed in half the time frame.

Meeting the deadline so successfully creates a new major reference of CISDI’s intelligent heavy warehousing tech.

The new wharf has a 5,000-tonne cargo berth, is 141 metres long and has a 23-metre-wide dock basin.

Labour-reducing systems – autonomous port machinery, intelligent wharf management model and machine vision perception tech - were implemented as soon as construction ended.

Intelligent warehouse management, intelligent wharf and intelligent motor transport are outstanding examples of CISDI’s solutions for the global metals industry.

Their applications at Baowu’s Bayi Steel and Masteel and Baosteel Zhanjiang have streamlined workforces and lengthened equipment service life. Turnover efficiency has been enhanced and working conditions and systematic safety have been improved greatly.
